Município de Lagoa
Synopsis
Adapted from the novel of the same name written by José Eduardo Agualusa, this drama set in the mid-19th century reflects on the injustices of slavery, narrating the events that occurred after the sinking of a Portuguese slave ship during a voyage between Angola and Brazil. The struggle for survival of the few who arrived alive on a desert island leads to a change in the moral and social values of the time – where there was a clear distinction between masters and slaves, whites and blacks – which, in that context, ceased to have any relevance. A co-production between Brazil’s Refinaria Filmes and Portugal’s David & Golias, Sobreviventes is directed by José Barahona (Estive em Lisboa e Lembrei de Você, Alma Clandestina) and was in competition at the 21st edition of IndieLisboa.
