Em 1992, depois de sofrer um acidente de viação que o deixa com amnésia, Ahmed regressa à sua aldeia, onde nada lhe é familiar: nem sequer consegue reconhecer a própria mulher e os filhos. O filho mais novo, assustado com o rosto do pai coberto de ligaduras, sente um profundo terror por ele, enquanto, todas as noites, vozes desconhecidas lhe sussurram ladainhas numa língua desconhecida. Quem são? Porque falta a Ahmed o dedo indicador da mão direita? E porque é que o vizinho lhe provoca tanto desconforto? Realizado por Yanis Koussim, “Roqia” é um thriller psicológico que utiliza o terror sobrenatural para revisitar as cicatrizes da guerra civil argelina, cruzando género e comentário social sem transformar a história num simples exercício de exorcismo. Protagonizado por Ali Namous, Akram Djeghim e Hanaa Mansour, o filme teve a sua estreia mundial no Festival de Veneza.
In 1992, after suffering a car accident that left him amnesic, Ahmed returns to his village, where nothing is familiar to him: he can't even manage to recognize his own wife and children. The youngest child, frightened by his father's bandaged face, is profoundly terrified of him, while every night, voices of strangers whisper litanies in an unknown language. Who are they? Why is Ahmed missing the index finger on his right hand? And why does his neighbor make him so uneasy? Directed by Yanis Koussim, “Roqia” is a psychological thriller that uses horror and the supernatural to revisit the scars left by the Algerian Civil War, intertwining genre and social commentary without reducing the story to a straightforward exorcism exercise. Starring Ali Namous, Akram Djeghim and Hanaa Mansour, the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
