Synopsis
The Bordalo Pinheiro Museum opened to the public in 1916, being the first Museum in Portugal to be built from scratch to house the work of a single artist.
Its mission is to publicize the work of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, a notable artist from the second half of the 19th century, for his genius and humor, and creator of the famous Zé Povinho.
Based on the collection of Cruz Magalhães, founder of the Museum, the collection has been enriched over the last 100 years. The collection has around 13,200 objects, from tiles and ceramics to humorous drawings.
